Dr. Omid Reza Ranjbar Naeini participated in the 6th International Workshop on Optomechanics and Brillouin-Mandelstam Scattering: Fundamentals, Applications and Technology (WOMBAT 2026), held in Sydney, Australia, from 9 to 12 February 2026.

As part of Tutorial 6: Nanophononics, Dr. Ranjbar Naeini delivered a tutorial talk entitled “Phononic Integrated Circuits: From Source to Detection and Manipulation”, focusing on the development and operation of integrated platforms for the generation, propagation and manipulation of acoustic waves at the nanoscale.

During the tutorial, he presented phononic integrated circuits based on optomechanical nanobeams, incorporating one-dimensional photonic and phononic crystal structures. Particular attention was devoted to the impact of fabrication-induced critical dimension variability, highlighting how deviations introduced during fabrication can influence the performance and behaviour of these nanoscale systems.

The presentation also explored the generation of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) within integrated phononic circuits. Interdigital transducers (IDTs) were introduced as the source used to generate surface acoustic waves at 2 GHz, illustrating their role in coupling electrical signals to acoustic waves on the chip.

Finally, Dr. Ranjbar Naeini presented the design and experimental results related to surface acoustic wave propagation, providing insight into the development of integrated phononic technologies and their potential for controlling acoustic waves in compact, chip-scale devices.

WOMBAT 2026 brought together researchers working in optomechanics, nanophononics and Brillouin scattering, providing an international forum for discussing advances ranging from fundamental research to emerging technological applications.
